Medicare Coverage for Osteopathy and Physiotherapy

Navigating healthcare options can be overwhelming, but One&All is here to simplify it. If you're wondering about Medicare coverage for osteopathy and physiotherapy, here's what you need to know:

Medicare Coverage for Osteopathy and Physiotherapy

Yes, both osteopathy and physiotherapy can be partially covered by Medicare under the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) or Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plans. To benefit from this, you’ll need:

  • A valid referral from your GP
  • Your Medicare card
  • An EFTPOS Debit card

Steps to Access Rebates

  • Pay the Full Fee: At your consultation, you’ll pay the full fee upfront
  • Swipe Medicare Card: Use your Medicare card to process the rebate
  • Receive Rebate: The rebate, currently $60.35 per appointment, will be credited back to your EFTPOS Debit card

Eligibility

Typically, those with chronic or terminal conditions lasting six months or longer (like asthma, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease) are eligible. Discuss with your GP to see if you qualify.

Number of Visits

Your GP can refer you for up to five sessions per year, which may be split among different allied health services, including both osteopathy and physiotherapy.

Not Covered

Unfortunately, remedial massage and clinical Pilates are not covered by Medicare. However, if your Pilates instructor is also a physiotherapist, you may be able to get these sessions covered under physiotherapy.
